Arizona Diamondbacks Weather Playbook: Chase Field Roof, Phoenix Heat
Home advantage
Chase Field closes the roof for the vast majority of home games May through September because of Phoenix heat. Closed conditions produce 72-degree indoor baseball with no wind. Open roof on cooler April, October, and shoulder-month evenings can produce extreme carry from the combination of warm dry air and low humidity.
Division road environments
NL West gives the D-backs Coors altitude, Dodger Stadium onshore, Petco marine, and Oracle Park bay wind. Coors is the largest single environmental variance in the division; Oracle cold-marine is the opposite extreme from Chase Field closed roof.
For DFS and bettors
Assume closed roof for any Phoenix high above 100. Open roof on a hot dry night is the extreme-carry setup. Dry desert air with warm temperatures can push carry beyond humid-park baselines.
