Climate
Petco Park sits in downtown San Diego a half mile from the bay. Summer weather is mild and dry: July averages around 76 degrees at San Diego Airport with dew points in the low 60s. Marine layer cloud cover extends into afternoon on many days from May through August.
How wind plays here
Center field is to the northeast. Onshore southwest wind, the default afternoon pattern, blows out toward left-center. Wind at Petco is typically light, 6 to 12 mph. The marine-influenced air is dense and cool, which suppresses carry.
For DFS and bettors
Petco is one of the tougher home run environments in the majors because of dense marine air. Warm dry offshore-flow days in September and October are the only conditions that let the park play as a live-hitting environment.
